Beloit_flowering_plum
I got off the expressway at Beloit long enough to drive over to the college and see if it appeared to be a suitable place for Kati. I was very impressed. A beauitful campus in a much more interesting town than I'd realized. This is a flowering plum near the archeology museum.
I was also intrigued to note that there's a Blaisdell dorm at Beloit, just like at Pomona. A little internet research also turned up a Blaisdell dorm at U Penn and a Blaisdell concert hall in Honolulu. It turns out that the one at U Penn is named after the inventor of the zippo lighter, and the one in Honolulu after a former mayor. But the Pomona and Beloit buildings are named after the same man, Dr. James A. Blaisdell, a native of Beloit and graduate of the college, who ultimately became president of Pomona and was the man responsible for the Claremont Colleges.
