The next weekend I took a group of friends to the Day of the Dead exhibit at the Mexican Fine Arts Museum. I was last there with John and Paula and Kati, just a year ago, as we ran through Chicago looking for a perfect senior photo for Kati. This one is the attempt from the museum. Ultimately, it lost out to this one. But this year, of course, all I could think of was that last year's visit was the last time I saw Paula. So I picked up a paper mache pumpkin and some flowers and upgraded my own modest ofrenda for Paula. Besides the pumpkin and the flowers, it has a photo of her leading a group of letterboxers on Presque Isle, a piece of Lake Superior beach glass, a small bench she gave us one holiday, and one of her best pins. This one has a mathematical theme. I particularly like the sign language for the x and y axes. We all miss her so much.
