john sweet potatoes
Let's just acknowledge an important fact right off. If you're putting on a family dinner there are no better helpers anywhere than the Hiltons and their progeny. Well, I suppose the Elders aren't half bad either, but I never get to be in charge and order them around the way I do my siblings and their children so I can't say for sure. This is John making a labor-intensive mashed sweet potato with maple syrup recipe that I thought looked good--especially if someone else was going to do all the work. They were delicious. He'd also made a couple of equally labor-intensive pies. They were both great but the apple, made with a mixture of granny smith and macintosh, was outstanding. It would win a state fair blue ribbon any day.
